The National Service Scheme is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Gandhiji's Centenary year in 1969. With the motto ’Not Me but You’, NSS is a community service program with the objective of building social consciousness in students. The NSS unit of Hindu College focuses its activities on three key sectors of providing equal rights, access, and opportunities to the underprivileged and/or differently-abled: education, health, and work with the visually challenge through a decentralized system of 5 wings and they are Education, Environment, Health, Scribe, and Media.
NSS educates students and society regarding many issues like health, sanitation, palliation, etc. Various health camps and cleanliness drives across campus and slum areas near it have been taken out to create awareness and also to motivate people to work towards a clean environment.
The NSS Wing of the College focuses its activities on three key sectors of providing equal rights, access and opportunities to the underprivileged and/or differently-abled: education, health, and work with the visually challenged.

There are two NSS units. The students are encouraged by NSS Program Officer and NSS Officers of the College to participate in social service.
The NSS volunteers of the college take part in extending services to annual pilgrims coming for Pitrapaksh congregation at Vishnupad at Gaya and to the Buddhist pilgrims coming at Bodh-Gaya. Students are also involved in plantation, literacy programmes, provision of drinking water service for pedestrian during summer and other civic activities in Gaya and surrounding villages.
The NSS volunteers are extended support by local NGOs working in the field of literacy, human rights awareness and environmental protection.
The College organized NSS volunteers tour in rural areas for general awareness among people on Panchayati Raj and promoting women’s participation the democratic process of governance. Literacy campaigns are also launched in selected clusters of under-privileged communities. During the last two years, ten groups were sent for weeklong literacy programme and two general awareness programmes against child labour and child marriage were held in two blocks of the district.
A study was conducted regarding the socio-economic problems of beggers and on the basis of the study, a detailed proposal is being prepared for their upliftment. NSS units of the College shall be involved in the upliftment programme to be undertaken in cooperation with the local people, institutions and the administration.
It is hard to assess the exact outcome of the programmes. However, wherever the volunteers went for awareness campaign their activities and efforts were highly appreciated by local people.
